Have you struggled with the issue of Cursive writing?  It seems to be a hot topic among homeschoolers.  Should we teach it?  Should we not?  The public education system has begun to phase it out.  Should we?  Research has shown that cursive has some undeniable benefits, even helping those with dyslexia or dysgraphia.

I can't answer all the questions.  But,  PreScripts Cursive Sentences and Art Lessons by Classical Conversations has persuaded me that Bentz Test Laboratory will continue to incorporate this controversial subject.  And, not only to include it - but to enjoy it!

"Prescript" comes from the Latin  (another subject we teach!) words "before" and "to write".  The PreScripts series is a way to prepare your students to be good writers by copying well written words that others have written before them.

Instead of unrelated words and sentences to practice their handwriting skills, this series is carefully designed to build their writing confidence and thinking skills.  This book of the series focused on medieval and world history notes. Even better (according to my tester) were the drawing lessons that are included.  Shhh...don't tell anyone, but even the "fun" drawing lessons are really building fine motor skills to improve their writing...but, it just looks like fun to them!

Daily practice is vital to developing neatness.  This book includes enough pages for an entire year - doing 4-5 per week.  It's very affordable at just $12.99.  In addition to the handwriting, my student was reviewing history information.  If you want to, you could use these for memorization and review as well.  The drawing lessons were a great introduction and covered art topics like depth, the rule of thirds, point of view, and more.  I love how all these subjects were integrated into one lesson!

The only thing my tester suggested - "I needed more lines to finish, since I write bigger than the sample".

This truly is the first handwriting practice we have done that didn't produce tears or feel like just another thing to cross off our list.  It was handwriting with a purpose and plan, and it was fun too!

I can't wait to check out their other levels - you will want to as well.
