The Unbreakable Faith Course from Pilgrim's Rock, LLC: A TOS Crew Review

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way

The Unbreakable Faith Course from Pilgrim's Rock, LLC is a great resource for you and your high school students to study Apologetics together!

Why study apologetics?  It's essential for us to be able to answer the questions others have, especially those who are skeptics with confidence and grace. The Unbreakable Faith Course is designed to equip you to do that.

Unbreakable Faith is designed for students ages 15+, and can count for a full high school credit when completed. The course contains 2 paperback "textbooks" as well as a self-paced, 36 week online program.

The books, written by Craig Biehl PhD from Westminster Theological Seminary, provide a foundation for understanding apologetics, theology and why we believe what we do.

The Box - is an easy read.  It's a conversation between "Mr. A" and "Mr. C" that provides a peek into how to converse with an atheist or agnostic.

God the Reason - is a more in-depth look at the characteristics of God.

The Unbreakable Faith Course is broken into 6 parts.  Each part contains multiple short videos, about 10-15 minutes each.  The videos are very well done with excellent images and audio.  I've decided to work through the course myself, and then use the information to help teach apologetics to my students.

The course is well thought out, with a handy syllabus to guide you along the way with the required reading (I'm such a education nerd...I love syllabi!).  Each video must be watched, and the course worked through sequentially.  Subsequent videos "unlock" as you complete the prior.  At the end of each part, there is a timed quiz.  I like the format, it reminds me very much of college courses, and is a great way to introduce your students to this type of online learning. The author even schedules office hours (live video chats) for students to meet with him to answer questions.

The material is meaty and deep - it will definitely make you think and process what you believe.  With the reading and videos, this course also appeals to multiple learning styles.

It's imperative that we give our children tools they can use to understand and defend their faith.  I feel like I have had many years of apologetics, but I am still continuing to learn more about God and how to defend what I believe with this course!

Be sure to check it out!

Forensic Faith for Kids & Case Makers Academy from David C Cook: A TOS Crew Review

Forensic Faith for Kids and Case Makers Academy from David C Cook

Teaching your children how to investigate and defend their beliefs is one of the most important duties we have as parents.  We have been using Forensic Faith for Kids and Case Makers Academy from David C Cook to teach us how to investigate and defend our faith.

Forensic Faith for Kids is written by J. Warner and Susie Wallace.  I first heard J. Warner Wallace speak at a homeschool convention, and I was immediately a huge fan!  He is a former cold-case detective with a background that includes being featured on Dateline, Fox News and other crime-related shows.  His books - Cold-Case Christianity, God's Crime Scene and Forensic Faith are some of our family favorites.

In Forensic Faith for Kids, J. Warner teams up with his wife Susie to bring the message to a level for our  children  ages 8-12.   They introduce Biblical truth through a fictional story that follows young police cadets in their search to find where Bailey (a sweet corgi puppy) has come from, and follows their interactions with a friend who is questioning the facts about Jesus and faith.  Along the way, the cadets learn how to defend their beliefs through careful investigation and communication.

Throughout the book there are sidebars to the story that give extra activities:
  • CSI assignments - where the reader is directed back to scripture

  • Dig Deeper - a reminder to visit the online academy for more activities

  • Detective Definitions - where police terms are explained

  • Tools for your Detective Bag - that encouragement to apply the lessons to daily life

My testers loved reading this book.  My older children used his Forensic Faith book/dvd study last year.  They are both excellent resources to help your children discover what they believe, and why.  The point of the book is to get your child to really examine their beliefs and be equipped to share and defend them.

Case Makers Academy is an online,  FREE resource you can use alongside the book.

It contains 10 sections with short videos, downloadable activity pages like word finds, puzzles and more, fill-in-the-blank note sheets to go with each chapter and a leader's guide.

This is an excellent way to turn the book into a full study. I would make an excellent choice for your co-op or Sunday school too!   We enjoyed watching J. Warner Wallace's videos, they really make the points from the book stick in our mind. The printable make a great notebook, and you can print out completion certificates/badges when you finish.

We highly recommend this book, you will want to check out the entire series!  Take a peek at this short video too:
