Us in Wonderland

The Mad Hatter and March Hare

We've never been "into" halloween - but, we have always been "INTO" dressing up!  This year was no exception...

With the craziness of our travel schedule, it kinda snuck up on me. But, Lydia to the rescue!  She planned and executed one of our best themes ever... "Us in Wonderland" (a take on Alice in Wonderland)

The White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat

We didn't really plan to go anywhere - even trick or treating was out... it was simply for the fun of dressing up and goofing off!

Oh... did I forget - Don and I got in on the fun too!  The Queen of Hearts and her King!

Since we were dressed up, we decided to take the characters out to dinner at a family favorite, Red Robin. This turned out to be one of the most wonderful memories.  We met a darling waitress and her sister, heard about their lives and made some new friends!

The kids surprised me with chipping in significantly to leave the biggest tip I've ever left, and they learned how easy it is to be a blessing!

I've never been prouder!  Way to take back halloween and use it for the Lord

Halloween Reflections

Just feeling nostalgic today...

My kiddos have ceased to participate in my themed costume ideas!  So, here's a blast from the past, and 2 of my favorites!

My SEVEN DWARFS!  (when we only had seven...I tried to talk them into reviving this one this year with the oldest away at college.  They revolted)  This was back in the "sew all the costumes by hand" days.

My POOL BALLS - this was our first year in AR - we had nothing but cardboard and packing materials to work with...but they turned out delightful!

Is There Anything Better Than Candy? Box-Tract from Let the Little Children Come: A TOS Crew Review

Is There Anything Better Than Candy? Box-Tract from Let the Little Children Come

It's almost fall!  Time to start planning some creative ways to share your faith.  We have discovered a new, simple tool called Is There Anything Better Than Candy? Box-Tract from Let the Little Children Come.  This Halloween-tract is an easy-to-assemble, pre-punched paper pumpkin with the Gospel message printed inside.

It's easy to fold - the directions are printed on each page, and only takes a few minutes.  No extra supplies are needed, unless you want to fill them with a piece of candy or small trinket.  Our pack came with 20 pumpkins.  As it is unfolded, the numbered petals contain the basic message of the Gospel, in easy to understand language.

It's specifically targeted toward children.  They will get to discover each message as they unfold the pumpkin.  The numbers help tell the story in the proper order.  Take a peek at the petals:

The company, Let the Little Children Come offers tools like this specifically to equip children in evangelism.  I love this from their page - "Share the gospel in love and obedience, and leave the results to God." My children are excited to find ways to use these pumpkins as a way to share!

These could be used in a variety of ways, as treat holders for your trick-or-treaters or even as a Sunday school treat.

We plan on using them at our Co-op closer to Halloween both as a special treat for our students, as well as a teaching tool to demonstrate the steps in sharing the Gospel message.

If your looking for a way to help spread light this season, these sweet pumpkins will help!

Around the World in 8 Kids

This year's "Reverse Trick or Treat" theme.....  Around the World in 8 Kids!

Reverse Trick or Treat is when we dress up and take candy to all the people in my hubby's office.

Our final year of all 8 kiddos participating...sniff...  Can you guess their countries?  Best of all, we didn't spend a penny!

Halloween - Homeschool style

We never seem to be "normal" around here...  Not that I mind!  (Normal is just a setting on the dishwasher anyway, right)

Here's our homeschool style Halloween - titled (by my children) - "America: Heroes vs. Villians"  All costumes were created by them...

Our tradition is to visit my husband's office and "reverse trick or treat" them - aka...bring them candy.

Presenting:   Pocohontas Big Hair,  San Antonio,  & Ben Franklin

Blackbeard and Laura Ingalls Wilder....

Davy Crockett and Annie Oakley

and last but not least - Zorro (we are in South Texas...so we're claiming him as American)

Everyone creates a Halloween theme...right?
