Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way

Bible Unearthed
from Drive Thru History® Adventures

We are HUGE fans of Drive Thru History® Adventures!  We have had the chance to go exploring with an early access pass to their newest addition - Bible Unearthed.  I get to share a "sneak peek" with you!

This subscription grants lifetime access to a new 12 part series that will take your family on an archeological adventure of the ancient world.  Using the tools and tricks of archaeology experts, you will learn the history, importance and impact the Bible has had on history.

Each of the 12 sections include:
  • A Video Episode
  • Full Written Exposition & Breakout
  • Downloadable PDF Worksheets with full Answer Guides
  • “Dig Deeper” Articles
  •  Fun Activities
  • An exclusive Facebook Community just for other Adventurers

The Video Episodes explore the world of archaeology and the Bible:
  1. What is Archaeology?
  2. The Impact of Archaeology
  3. Locating Archaeological Sites
  4. The Life of an Archaeologist
  5. What's Being Discovered Today?
  6. Archaeological Mysteries
  7. Top Discoveries in Bible Archaeology
  8. Getting Involved with Archaeology
  9. Trends in Archaeology
  10. Weird Archaeology
  11. Accidental Discoveries in Archaeology
  12. What's Left to Be Discovered?

Dave Stotts and Randall Niles (both from Drive Thru History® Adventures) along with Dr. Titus Kennedy, a PhD Archeologist, host each episode. We have been long time fans - check out our reviews on The Gospels and Acts to Revelation, which would make excellent additions to this study!

Each episode is a fascinating discussion that takes place in the studio.  We enjoy Dave Stott's sense of humor, and the friendly banter of the hosts.  The short videos (about 15 minutes each) are filled with full color pictures, slides, video clips on location (our favorite), maps, and artifacts detailing the world of archaeology and its importance to understanding the Bible and the ancient world.

Downloadable and printable PDF Worksheets are included for students to follow along.  Each worksheet contains a written section summarizing the video episode, Scripture readings, discussion questions, and suggested optional activities. Answer Keys are provided as well.

Each online episode includes the video and an online summary with full color pictures discussing the impacts, technical aspects and more to uncover the world of archaeology.

Following the Video Episode, "Dig Deeper" Articles are included for further investigation and research. These are internet linked to articles on the Drive Thru History® Adventures website and make a great addition to the study.

A downloadable poster of the Top 25 Bible Archaeology Discoveries is included. The discussion of these important finds is an excellent tool for helping defend the Bible with physical evidence.

This is a fascinating course, designed for students ages 10 and up.  A suggested schedule is included that shows how to use each episode for a week of study.  It would make an excellent supplement to your history studies, or even an addition to your family Bible study.

My son has always wanted to be an archaeologist and I have frequently said, "If I could redo my career... I would want to be a Biblical Archaeologist" - so, this was the perfect way for us to explore our interest together.

This course is very professionally produced, and packed with information that will both intrigue you and prepare you to defend your faith with evidence from archaeology.

It's not released quite yet... so be sure to stay tuned!

Carole P. Roman: A TOS Crew Review

Carole P Roman Blog
Carole P. Roman

We love discovering new books to add to our history and geography study.  Carole P. Roman has quickly become one of our favorite authors!

We recently were given 2 books in her award winning historical series - If You Were Me and Lived in... Elizabethan England: An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time (Volume 8) and If You Were Me and Lived in...Viking Europe: An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time (Volume 3).  In addition - we also received 2 "mystery titles" to look at!

If You Were Me and Lived in… Historical series - designed for ages 8-15

Books by Carole P Roman

We love these softcover books!  They are filled with information and facts about particular time periods.

If You Were Me and Lived in...Viking Europe: An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time (Volume 3) is illustrated with charming watercolor style illustrations.  It takes your child to a visit of Viking Eurpoe.  From what you name might be, social classes, home life, and what you might have eaten (horse meat...a treat?)  these books give your child a snapshot of life in the time of the Vikings.

What you did with your days, how you learned, and even what you called your mother give us the details of Viking life.  A section introduces Viking beliefs, and the norse gods as well as other famous Vikings from history.

If You Were Me and Lived in... Elizabethan England: An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time (Volume 8)

Books by Carole P Roman

This engaging book is written in the same style, but takes you to the world of Elizabethan England.
The illustrations are brighter in this book, and the text is larger and simpler, but still packed with interesting facts!

My testers love how they really get the "insider details" about the time periods as they read.  What did you eat, where did you learn, what did your parents do?  It takes history and makes it truly come alive for them.  We have reviewed several other titles  - you can read about them here.  These books make a perfect addition to your current history study, or as a springboard for a unit study!

Fribbet the Frog and the Tadpoles: A Captain No Beard Story (Volume 8) - ages 3 - 8

Books by Carole P Roman

This is a sweet story about the joys of family!  Poor Fribbet is being overrun with new tadpoles, but learns that family is worth the messes.  This is from Carol P. Roman's award winning first series for her sons.

Other books in the Captain No Beard (A Captain No Beard Story - The Series)
  • Captain No Beard: An Imaginary Tale of a Pirate's Life
  • Pepper Parrot's Problem with Patience
  • Stuck in the Doldrums: A Lesson in Sharing
  • Strangers on the High Seas
  • The Treasure of Snake Island
  • The Crew Goes Coconuts!
  • Captain No Beard and the Aurora Borealis
  • Fribbet the Frog and the Tadpoles
  • A Flag for the Flying Dragon
  • Being a Captain is Hard Work

If You Were Me and Lived in… Cultural series- great for ages 4-9
If You Were Me and Lived In... Italy: A Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World

Books by Carole P Roman

We love this series!  The softcover books take you to different countries around the world.  They are full color with photos and illustrations. Each book introduces your child to a country, it's language, landmarks, food, and more.  My testers loved learning what their name would be, or what they would call their parents.  We have reviewed other titles - read what we thought here

Other books in If You Were Me and Lived in… Cultural series
Australia, Brazil, China, Cuba, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Kenya, Mars, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, South Korea, Turkey

HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study: Ancient Greece from Home School in the Woods: A TOS CREW REVIEW

HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study

HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study

HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study:Ancient Greece from Home School in the Woods

Why would you ever want to study history from a dry old textbook? We have been busy exploring the history of Greece with HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study:Ancient Greece from Home School in the Woods. History has come alive!

This downloadable unit study is designed for grades 3-8. It features 25 "stops" along your way as you travel through Ancient Greece. You will explore government, everyday life, history, medicine, science, food, arts, philosophy and more! It's a full 6-12 weeks of learning (depending on how fast you like to travel...) Check out this sample lesson and take a peek at this video to learn about the Project Passport Series:

All you need is the study - available on CD or as a download, your computer, a printer (with lots of ink) and some readily available supplies...

I'm still old-fashioned, and like to see my lessons all laid out, So I printed out my "Itinerary" so I can see where we are going.  This study is VERY easy to use, everything you need for each lesson is clearly laid out for you.  Each lessons includes several pages of written information called the "Guide Book Text" about the "stop" or lesson, that you can read to your children.  This lays a foundation for everything they are learning along the way.

At each stop, multiple activities are included to engage your students in what they are learning.  A timeline, "Scrapbook of Sights" - notebooking, mapping activities, audios, hands-on activities and a really nice lapbook are just a few of them. The wide variety allows YOU to pick and choose which of them are a good fit for your learning styles.

Since we are lapbook fans - I printed out all the lapbook components right away, and put together a single lapbook that we used each day to introduce our stop.  My kiddos love moving all the different flaps, slides, and uncovering the information.  They enjoy it so much, they spend their "free time" looking trough it over and over and my older children loved helping create the lapbook.  It makes a great reminder of what we learned too!

This is a very comprehensive, well-researched and written study. It's filled with facts, information and details of life in Ancient Greece. Even after multiple trips, we'd still have more to discover in this study!  One of our favorite parts were the dozens of hands-on activities (all with detailed instructions for mom) included in the study.

Here they are with some creations - greek pottery, frescos, and hoplite sheilds!  This is the type of learning that really sticks.

But, that's just the tip of the iceberg - we made our own "Great Greeks" fan cards,  paper dolls, and even a "Greek Life" board game! We can't wait to tackle the model of the Parthenon next!  This study has done an amazing job of capturing the attention of all my very DIFFERENT children's personalities.

I just can't say enough about how much I appreciate how  Home School in the Woods makes teaching history fun and easy, both for me and my students.  This is one MUST-Have resource! (and Ancient Rome is coming in 2018...)

Greek Columns

Art history -

Greek columns!  The easy way... with cardboard tubes.  Doric, Ionic, Corthinian?  It's your call...

We also demonstrated how columns create strength with our "challenge" - paper cup columns and cookie sheet roofs.  They did some hand's on to learn what design was the sturdiest.

Lots of fun in Art class today!
