Summer Fun - Wonders Science

The main reason for our summer trip to Cali was Wonders Science Camp!

My husband (kinda wonderful to call him that!) teaches hands-on science camps to elementary age kids.  Each summer, hundreds of kids get to experience the Wonder with experiments, demonstrations & take home projects.  This year, COVID cancelled most of the camps, but not all of them!

With little time to prepare - the team stepped up to help "staff" the camps.  It was a wonderful time!!

It is such a privilege to introduce children to the wonder around them.  From nature walks to hot air balloons...

Rocket Camp was a blast!  They each built their very own powered rocket and launched it the final day.

It's a lot of fun... with science mixed in!

I love my team!

The team at Super Teacher Worksheets, in-house writers, artists and web-developers, work to create resources to help students  "use higher-order thinking skills, promote creativity, and make learning fun!"

In addition to math and language arts, we really appreciated the variety of science, social studies, and even art worksheets they have to choose from.

My testers enjoyed the mystery pictures. They plotted coordinates and connected the lines to create the picture.  She could see right away where she missed...

They have great quizzes that you can use for review.  All the printables come with full answer keys for you too!  My testers told me... "these are the best worksheets we've ever done..."

The Worksheet Generator allows you to create your own custom word searches, crosswords, word scrambles, and math worksheets. We love the bingo cards I made with our vocabulary words, it's a fun way to review, and it's so easy to do!

The handy My File Cabinet feature allows you to save worksheets into your personal collection, so they are super easy to find and print again.

I highly recommend this affordable homeschool resource, be sure to check it out!

Summer Fun - Cali Beaches

Our trip to Cali included wasn't all work... we found plenty of place to play!

I love the beach - the sounds, the smells, the feel of the sand on my feet.  I never get tired of it!

California has more that 3,000 miles of shoreline to explore!!

We loved walking (and posing) along the the beach.  Each beach was a new adventure!

Time Travelers U.S. History Studies -The Industrial Revolution through the Great Depression from Home School in the Woods: A TOS Crew Review

Time Travelers U.S. History Studies -The Industrial Revolution through the Great Depression from Home School in the Woods

We love learning history with Time Travelers U.S. History Studies! The Industrial Revolution through the Great Depression in our next stop in this series from a family favorite - Home School in the Woods!

Be sure to check out our stops with New World Explorers and The Civil War studies.

This unit study designed for grades 3-8 arrives as a downloadable PDF.  I love the flexibility - you get to pick and choose what you want to print. It contains 25 lessons that will help bring history to life.

Each lesson contains Text Pages and Project Pages.  Text Pages are the "spine", they are well-researched information with tons of fascinating facts.  Project Pages are filled with options for you to choose from to make the lesson come alive.  A full Lapbook, penmanship, recipes, crafts and more are included.  Each lesson includes Master copies and detailed instructions.

Topics covered in this study include:
  • Railroads, Gold, Snow and Fire
  • Wars in the West
  • A Gilded Age
  • Innovations & Inventors
  • Immigration in America
  • Work Conditions Worsen
  • The Arts
  • America Continues to Grow
  • Interesting People
  • War on the Islands!
  • The Progressive Era
  • Other Happenings
  • World War I
  • The Roaring 20s
  • The Stock Market Crash & The Great Depression
I love when we can take history off the page and really get a chance to experience it!  These studies have a wonderful variety of activities, so you are sure to find one that interests you.

Here are a few we liked -

My girls love anything crafty - getting to try decoupage for the first time was very fun (we only had spray mod podge - which we do not recommend).

This study has several fun, creative hands on projects.  We can't wait to try our hand at embroidered silk postcards and felt penny rugs!

The paper dolls gave them a peek into the fashions of this era.

I love the Timeline! It makes a great visual aid as we learn. You can choose a blank version and add figures as you work through the lessons, or I prefer the completed Teacher Key found in the handy Teacher Helps section.

We also enjoyed the file folder games.  These make a great way to review information, and I love to use them in my Coop history classes as well.  This game takes you on a fun trip on Route 66 as you learn about America.

Recipes are included for you to plan your own "Depression-Era Dinner".
Vocabulary cards, postcards, maps, and plenty of mini books are included.  I love all the variety!

These studies are SO easy-to-use and everything has been planned out for you so that you can really experience history, not just read about it!
