Time Travelers U.S. History Studies - New World Explorers from Home School in the Woods: A TOS Crew Review

Time Travelers U.S. History Studies - New World Explorers from Home School in the Woods

Nothing beats some hands-on history to keep summer learning lively!  We have been exploring with Time Travelers U.S. History Studies - New World Explorers from Home School in the Woods.  This downloadable product is designed for grades 3-8 and can be used with a wide variety of learning styles!  This is something I really appreciate about everything we have used from Home School in the Woods, they make it easy to teach to multiple children, and multiple learning styles! Check out this from their blog.

Our adventure with Time Travelers U.S. History Studies - New World Explorers was just what we needed.  This downloadable curriculum contains 25 lessons that will take you around the world with lessons like:  Reasons for Exploration, A Sailor's Life, Ships, Navigation, 23 Explorer Profiles, Pirates, and more!  Best of all, with so much to choose from, you will find something to spark your child's interest and they will be off learning! The study takes from 5-10 weeks, depending on your schedule.

Everything you need is well-organized, and easy to use.  To access each lesson, all you need to do is click.  Be sure to have stocked up on your printer paper and ink, you'll be printing what you need.

Each lesson contains informative text for the topic and a variety of projects and activities to choose from to bring hands-on learning to the topicc. The Time Travelers series is the perfect tool for bringing history to life!  Check out this post on why teaching US history is so important.

Projects include lapbooking & notebooking pages, maps, timelines, art projects, science projects, creative writing, and our favorites - file folder games.

Let me show you a few...

This is Pirate Panoply.  It's a simple file folder, with a pirate in "nothing but his skivvies".  Roll a dice and dress your pirate.  Along the way, they were really learning about each piece of attire and it's purpose.  Of course, along the way, they were really learning history! shhh....don't tell them.

Here are a couple of other file folder games included in this program.  One is called Merchant Maurauder.  In this game, they are learning about money, jobs, and supplies as they use their doubloons and pieces of eight to purchase them.  Once again, this simple game is really giving them a chance to understand history.

In High and Dry,  the focus is learning important vocabulary.  This game accumulates more cards as you progress through the lessons.  Vocab words, ship & navigation terminology and our favorite - old sea sayings.  All you need to do is roll the dice, move along the board, and learn vocabulary in a painless way!

I really love making the games.  I know that's not really the point, but it is very fun to create a fun learning tool, and be able to use it over and over.

Time Travelers U.S. History Studies offer plenty more activities.  Lessons include recipes, projects, factfiles, timelines and maps.

Not only on paper, the study includes many hands-on, active learning projects as well. We loved trying our hands at some real sailor's knots like the stopper, bolin and sheepshank.

I love that there is something to appeal to each of my different students.  Some of them prefer to creatively write, there's the Explorer Weekly.  Some prefer to cook and try the recipes.  Some really like to create and had fun  trying her hand at making some glow-in-the-dark constellations!

A full lapbook is included as well.  I love that we get to pick and choose the projects and activities!

Overall, they were having so much fun, they didn't realize they were doing school and learning American history.  Now that's an adventure you don't want to miss!
