Art of the Middle Ages: Volume 3 ARTistic Pursuits Art Instruction Books with DVD and Blu-Ray from ARTistic Pursuits Inc.
We love art time, and we love history - what could make these subjects even better? Doing them togther with Art of the Middle Ages: Volume 3 ARTistic Pursuits Art Instruction Books with DVD and Blu-Ray from ARTistic Pursuits Inc.!
We have been long time fans of ARTistic Pursuits Inc., and have used many of their books through years of homeschooling. The new ARTistic Pursuits Art Instruction Books with DVD and Blu-Ray make creating great art even easier!
These hardcover books are designed for grades K-3. They are filled with full-color photos, easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions, historical background information for 18 projects AND a DVD and Blu-Ray disc. It's like getting the art teacher to come to your house!
My testers were delighted to jump right in and get creating. The book includes 6 video lessons that cover a wide range of art mediums including: paper loom weaving, panel drawing, stitching, straw loom weaving, book binding, low-relief. The book also introduces Icons, art in windows, and art on buildings - all set in the Medieval time.
The lessons use basic art supplies which you can easily find, or you can purchase a "Starter Pack" of materials all ready to go.
The videos introduce the art lesson, and explain how to use the materials. My testers loved that they were in time-period costumes. All you have to do is have the supplies ready to go!
The book includes historical information, supply lists and step-by-step instructions. "Prep Notes" help you get ready for the next lesson, and offer additional tips to help the lesson go smoothly. If you are doing this as part of a group outside your home, they offer classroom suggestions as well.
All the lessons focus on Art in in the Medieval world with lessons covering:
- People on the move
- Art in monasteries
- Art in basilicas
- Art to instruct
- Art in churches
- Art on fabric
- Art in castles
- Art in the bestiary
- Art on book covers
- Art in windows
- Art on buildings
My testers loved to pick and choose the projects they were most interested in. They started with paper weaving. Take a peek at their "Bunny and Bluebirds". Since my testers are in 3rd and 4th grade, they enjoyed getting to work independently.
After learning the terms "warf" and "weft" - they are noticing them everywhere!
The next lesson they couldn't wait to get started on was stitching on fabric. After learning about history and value of fabric in the Middle Ages, learning about the significance of colors used, and looking at a tapestry - they got right to work on creating their own. Stitching on burlap is a wonderful way to introduce them to this art form.
They ask to do art everyday! This is a perfect complement to your history study, or it makes a great way to keep them learning during the summer.
The next projects were stained glass and mosaics. I love how easy the book is to use, and how much history is included with each project.
Once again, ARTistic Pursuits Inc. has created a program that is easy-to-use, and gets your children excited about creating art! Other members of the Crew got a chance to create with the other titles from ARTistic Pursuits Inc. - Be sure to check them out!
