200 Essential Reading Skills for Fourth Grade by Reading Eggs

What is the most requested subject at Bentz Academy?  It's the Online Suite by Reading Eggs!  The NEW workbooks bring the fun off screen and into a bright workbook that complements the online lessons perfectly!  We have been enjoying the 200 Essential Reading Skills for Fourth Grade level, but they have 9 different levels to choose from in both reading and math!

Let me introduce you to Reading Eggs Online Suite an online, self-paced collection of programs that focus on helping build your child's reading and comprehension skills by using a variety of online resources like games, songs and rewards.

There are several different levels, depending on your student's skill:

• Reading Eggs Junior is designed for your preschoolers - ages 2-4. It uses a variety of read-aloud books, alphabet games and more to get your child focusing on letters and the sounds they make.

• Reading Eggs is for ages 3-7, uses a self-paced program to get your children excited about reading. They can complete a variety of activities and earn golden eggs as a reward!

• MathSeeds is a great program for ages 7-13 to practice and perfect math skills.

• Reading Eggspress helps your younger readers in grades 1-6 to practice their reading skills. A simple placement test helps put them in the correct spot. Both of my testers (grades 3 and 4) are in this level. The program is full of games, activities, online books and more that help your child learn to love reading. 

The program is very easy to use.  Simply logon, and your child is given plenty of options. They can practice skills like spelling, play games and compete against others, complete lessons to earn golden eggs, visit the library, see their targets, play games in the arcade or even go "shopping" at the mall.
 

My tester is in Fourth Grade and loves Reading Eggspress!  Here's a peek at it from her perspective...

The Stadium lets her play games to compete against others by answering questions about a variety of topics.  She loves seeing her avatar "racing" against the other opponents, and it's improving her reading fluency too!

The Map is the area inside her lessons that allows her to choose what she wants to read about.

 Inside each lesson, she gets to practice a variety of exercises - from cover story where she learns about the book, to vocabulary exercises, context clues, and even a quiz. As she completes each section, she earns "golden eggs".  The eggs are the currency of the program, and the best motivator.  The eggs allow her to play in the arcade, or her favorite - go shopping!  The program keeps track of her progress, and I can see how she did.

Her favorite part is getting to use her eggs to furnish her apartment, purchase pets, or update her avatar.  She would spend hours doing this alone!  But, in order to shop, she has to go back and complete the lessons to earn those valuable eggs.  I love how well-done this program is!  It is bright, fun and very user friendly. 

What I like best about the program is the NEW workbooks!  They coordinate with the online lessons, and really target  reading and language skills.  The workbook contains a full 32 weeks of lessons plus 4 weeks of a reviews, for a full school year.  The daily lessons are short - with 5 days of lessons per week.  They cover reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, and grammar, all in one handy place.  And they are full-color too!

Here's a peek:

Each week starts with reading passages, and marking and highlighting (just like online!).  The passages are fun topics, and followed by various questions to test their understanding.  The passages correspond with reading they can do online as well.  

Spelling exercises follow, with a variety of formats.  Naming, rewriting the words, filling the missing letters and more.  I love that the VARIETY!  My tester doesn't get bored.

Grammar skills are practiced.  The workbook is beautifully done with full color pictures!
